Emory got his new school books yesterday! We got Story of the World for History, Math workbook, Spelling Workout book, Language for the Well Trained Mind, and I'm going to order the Science through ABeka--my brother is a homeschool coordinator/seller, whatever. His Math workbook is first grade and he did 5 pgs on his own! There is not much in the first 3/4ths of the workbook that he doesn't know how to do! :o) The history seems a little advanced for 1st grade, but I'm just going to do a little every day and plenty of activities. We are very excited!!!
My schedule now is basically I try to get everything done in the mornings before the kids get up (so far I've started laundry, put up dishes, picked up in living room, changed trash, got dressed, and have breakfast in the oven). I'm about to clean the bathrooms which is wayyyyy overdue! I also stay up late to do anything that needs doing. I'm just going to focus on getting extra sleep on Saturdays and Sundays. :o) The only chores I do while the kids are up are making our beds and just doing table chores after we eat. Yesterday we had time to play a game--it was so fun! Here is a basic rundown of our schedule:
6:30--Me up
8:00--kids up
Breakfast
Table and counter clean up
Make beds, kids get dressed and straighten their rooms
Go outside for an hour or less
Read aloud (we are almost finished with Pinocchio) and Devotions
Reading with Emory, Erin colors or does a puzzle
Math with Both
Play time or Game time
Lunch
Listen to story on Record
Nap for Erin
Restime for Emory (I can get a few things done or rest myself)
Other subjects for Emory (science, spelling, language, history)
Computer time for Emory, Prayer time/bible reading for me
Start supper plans and play with Emory
We have unstructured time after Daddy gets home! :o) Just being together and chillin' is our goal! :o)
Evan naps at 10 and 3, most of the time
We have 2 10 min pickups during the day
Did you notice the lack of housework and the amt of time with kids? I love it. I do laundry in the mornings, dishes at night and the other chores in between times (oh, on Wed I let them watch a movie and I will mop the whole house at that time) I still sweep on MWF (just front of house) and Emory gets trash MWF, dusting and windexing is just when needed (when I can spell my name on my furniture...lol). I sweep off porch and sidewalk while the kids play outside or watch movie on Wednesday.
I love it!!!!!!!!

It sounds great!! I"m glad you're enjoying your new schedule.
Are you sure you're not overdoing it for Emory though? I don't mean to criticize, but that sounds like a lot for a 5yo. Asher does maybe an hour of school (not including family read alouds) and that seems like plenty to me. I just don't want to rush him, they're only young once, yk? I think this time is so critical for unstructured play. And so much learning is actually done while playing, yk? anyways, jsut something for you to think about, but I know every family has to do what's right for them.
Seems like a nice and realistic schedule. HOw long does Evan nap at each time?
